Navigating NMOSD
THE TASK:
To design an unbranded website titled Navigating NMOSD, featuring a compelling and audience-focused visual style that is both engaging and informative.
The homepage hero image spells out “NMOSD” using large, sculptural letterforms with a soft, dimensional, almost cut-paper look. The layered shapes create a tactile, handcrafted feel that is warm and approachable rather than clinical.
Within the letters are subtle, illustrative references to the nervous system, including nerve pathways, lesions, and the eye, woven in symbolically rather than literally. These details acknowledge the physical realities of NMOSD without feeling overwhelming or medicalized.
The human figures and environmental details add a sense of scale and humanity. They suggest real lives moving through and alongside the disease, reinforcing that NMOSD is part of a person’s world, not their entire identity.
A bold but controlled color palette and chunky, simplified shapes keep the composition highly legible and accessible. Small human figures add scale and a sense of real life, reinforcing that NMOSD is part of a person’s world, not their whole identity.
